Amazon Search Catalogue Performance: Where Are Customers Dropping Out?

Think of Amazon as a Funnel

A lot needs to happen before a sale occurs:

Product shown → Customer clicks → Customer considers → Customer buys

Amazon's Search Catalogue Performance dashboard provides product-level visibility across key shopping metrics including impressions, clicks, cart adds and purchases. Amazon specifically positions the data as a way of diagnosing issues in the shopping funnel.

That makes it extremely useful.

Impressions: Are We Being Seen?

Low impressions can point towards:

  • Search relevance
  • Organic ranking
  • PPC coverage
  • Catalogue quality

If there's no visibility, conversion optimisation alone won't solve the problem.

Clicks: Are We Attractive?

If impressions are strong but clicks are weak, investigate:

  • Main image
  • Price
  • Reviews
  • Product title
  • Offer

This is effectively CTR analysis.

Basket Adds: Are We Being Considered?

The basket stage is interesting. A shopper has moved beyond browsing and shown stronger purchase intent.

If clicks look healthy but basket adds collapse, something about the product or offer may not be meeting expectations.

Purchases: Are We Closing the Sale?

Strong basket adds but weaker purchases might lead me to investigate:

  • Price changes
  • Delivery
  • Availability
  • Competition
  • Buy Box
  • Customer hesitation

Look at the Stage Where Performance Breaks

That's the key. Don't just say:

“Sales are down.”

Ask:

Where did the funnel change?

That creates a much more useful diagnosis.

Combine With Other Reports

Search Catalogue Performance becomes stronger when combined with:

  • SQP
  • Business Reports
  • PPC reports
  • Listing analysis
  • Inventory

No Amazon report exists in isolation.

Where I Can Help

I use this type of funnel analysis with clients to diagnose why growth has slowed.

Sometimes the answer is PPC. Sometimes it's listing conversion. Sometimes it's inventory or price.

The data helps us avoid guessing.
