Amazon Listing Conversion Rate: Why More Traffic Won't Fix a Weak Listing

PPC Can't Fix Everything
One of the most common PPC conversations I have is:
“We need more traffic.”
Sometimes that's true. But sometimes traffic is already there.
The real problem is conversion.
What Is Conversion Rate?
At its simplest:
Orders ÷ Visits/Clicks
The exact metric depends on the report you're analysing, but the principle is the same:
How many shoppers who arrive actually buy?
Start With Traffic Relevance
Before rewriting the listing, make sure you're attracting the correct shopper.
If you're targeting irrelevant keywords, even a brilliant product page can produce poor CVR.
Check the Search Term Report.
Main Image
Your main image affects CTR first, but it also establishes expectations. Does it immediately communicate:
- Product type
- Size
- Quality
- Quantity
Secondary Images
Secondary images should answer questions. I like them to cover:
- Benefits
- Dimensions
- Use cases
- Features
- Comparison
- Lifestyle context
Price
Sometimes the problem really is price.
If every competing product is £19.99 and you're £34.99, your listing needs a very clear reason for the difference.
Reviews
Reviews create trust. Compare:
- Rating
- Review quantity
- Recent feedback
- Repeated complaints
A 3.8-star product might require a very different PPC strategy from a 4.7-star product.
Copy: Features Aren't Enough
A feature tells the customer what something has. A benefit explains why they should care.
Feature: 1,000mAh battery. Benefit: Longer use between charges.
Good listings connect the two.
A+ Content
A+ shouldn't simply repeat the bullets. Use it to:
- Build confidence
- Explain benefits visually
- Compare ranges
- Answer objections
- Provide context
Diagnosing With CTR + CVR
One of my favourite simple combinations:
- Low CTR + Low CVR: major relevance/offer issue.
- Strong CTR + Low CVR: listing or offer problem.
- Low CTR + Strong CVR: product converts when discovered — improve attraction/visibility.
- Strong CTR + Strong CVR: potential scaling opportunity.
Where I Can Help
Listing optimisation and PPC should be analysed together.
I help sellers audit the full customer journey — from search → click → product page → conversion — rather than treating PPC and listings as unrelated services.
Getting Traffic but Not Enough Sales?
I audit the full journey from search to conversion — not just the ad spend.
